Nominations are currently open for our 2026 executive team! We will be electing the new executives during our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, February 26th, 2026. All positions are listed below, presented as “role (# of positions available).” Our executive roles are open to anyone in the chemical community at any career or education level, so come join us in our mission to create bonds outside of the lab!

All interested candidates are to submit their nominations to Sofia and Arshiyah at chair@cictor.ca by Thursday, February 25th, 2026, at 11:50 pm EST.

Please include:

  • Your name, current title and field (i.e. Jane Doe, PhD candidate, materials chemistry)

  • Position of interest

  • 2-3 sentences about why you are interested in becoming a CIC executive/role you are running for

Once you have submitted your nomination, prepare a short 1-minute speech to present at our AGM explaining your interest and qualifications for your desired position.

Executive Positions

e.g. Role (# of positions available)

Chair (1): 

  • The Chair shall set the agendas for and chair Section meetings. 

  • The Chair shall also be the chief manager of the Section and be responsible for implementing the purposes of the Section. 

  • The Chair shall act as one of three signing authorities to the Section accounts and is jointly responsible with the Vice-Chair for the organization of the Annual General Meeting.

Vice Chair (1):

  • The Vice-Chair shall assist the Chair in carrying out their duties, as required. The Vice-Chair shall chair Executive Meetings in the absence of the Chair. The Vice-Chair shall succeed the Chair, if the Chair leaves office before completing their term. The Vice-Chair shall act as one of three signing authorities to the Section accounts and is jointly responsible with the Chair for the organization of the Annual General Meeting.

Treasurer (1):

  • The Treasurer shall be responsible for keeping proper accounting records, depositing and disbursing Section funds, and financial reporting to the Section and the Board of Directors of the Corporation. 

  • The Treasurer shall be required to deliver to the Corporation all accounting information and banking statements required to enable the Corporation’s accountants/auditors to prepare the Corporation’s financial statements. 

  • The Director of Finance of the Corporation will participate in any review or audit of the Section’s accounting records with the accountant/auditor for the Corporation. 

  • The Treasurer shall act as one of three signing authorities to the Section accounts.

Secretary (1):

  • The Secretary shall attend all Section meetings and record the minutes of such meetings. 

  • The Secretary shall also be responsible for delivering all notices and correspondence to Section members and the Corporation and keeping all the books, paper, records, and other documents of the Section.

Senior Communications Officer (1):

  • Lead and mentor Communications Officers in managing external and internal communication channels (newsletter, website, social media).

  • Develop communication strategies to ensure timely and effective event notifications to the membership.

  • Provide training on best practices for member engagement and content consistency.

Communications Officer (3):

  • The Communications Officer shall give notice to the membership of upcoming events and communicate to the membership of events that have happened.

  • The Communications Officer shall update the Section newsletter and website, and establish an online presence through social media channels.

Senior Academic Liaison (1):

  • Guide Academic Liaison Officers in building partnerships with academic institutions and recruiting members for events.

  • Oversee sponsorship efforts from academia to support Section activities.

  • Coordinate academic-related events and provide training in engagement and fundraising.

Academic Liaison (3):

  • The role of the Academic Liaison Officer is to actively communicate between the Section and academic partners. 

  • The Academic Liaison Officer shall actively recruit the participation of members from academic institutions in Section events and fundraise for Section activities via academic-related sponsorship.

  • The Academic Liaison is responsible for events involving academic partners.

Senior Public Outreach Coordinator (1):

  • Manage Public Outreach Coordinators in planning, organizing, and publicizing outreach events targeting the public.

  • Establish standards for event logistics and ensure promotion at least 14 days in advance.

  • Provide training on audience engagement, event planning, and outreach strategies.

Public Outreach Coordinator (3):

  • The Public Outreach Coordinator shall be involved in planning and organizing at least one public outreach activity in which target attendees will be members of the public. 

  • The Public Outreach Coordinator will support activities are to be publicized at least 14 days prior to the event by way of email invitations and any other means deemed appropriate.

Senior Internal Events Coordinator (1):

  • Lead Internal Events Coordinators in organizing social and professional activities for Section members.

  • Set guidelines for event planning and communication to ensure activities are effectively promoted.

  • Mentor coordinators on event logistics, member engagement, and best practices for internal events.

Internal Events Coordinator (3):

  • The Internal Events Coordinator shall be involved in planning and organizing at least one social and one professional activity in which the target attendees will be Section members. 

  • The Internal Events Coordinator ensures that all activities are publicized at least 14 days prior to the event by way of email invitations and any other means deemed appropriate.

Senior Industrial Liaison (1):

  • Supervise Industrial Liaison Officers in developing relationships with industry partners and recruiting members for events.

  • Oversee industry sponsorship acquisition to support Section goals and initiatives.

  • Provide training in industry engagement, sponsorship approaches, and communication.

Industrial Liaison (3):

  • The role of the Industrial Liaison Officer is to actively communicate between the Section and industry partners. 

  • The Industrial Liaison Officer shall actively recruit the participation of members from industry in the Section events and fundraise for Section activities via industry-related sponsorship.

Senior Government Liaison (1):

  • Lead Government Liaison Officers in fostering relationships with local, provincial, and federal government bodies.

  • Develop strategies for government engagement on key issues related to Section objectives.

  • Provide training on government relations, advocacy, and collaboration with government representatives.

Government Liaison (3):

  • The role of the Government Liaison Officer is to actively communicate between the Section and members of local governments and, in collaboration with the Corporation, with the provincial and federal governments on matters of importance to Section members and in support of the Purpose of the Section.

Executive-at-Large (3):

  • The Exec-at-Large is a flexible role that is responsible in aiding the events of other officers and executives in the local section.

Executive Expectations

Executive members are expected to:

  • Attend at least 80% of meetings (Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM EST, yes - we only meet once a month)

  • Help lead at least one event

  • Follow our “let us know if you can’t make it to the meeting” policy 🙂
